Champlain College is a small community where we take care of each other. It is important that we feel ready to handle situations where students may be in distress. Sometimes, this means having the wisdom to know we can’t handle it alone and need to seek help.
What does the “SOS for Higher Education: Suicide Prevention” training involve?
This 30-minute self-guided online training course uses video and interactive learning to teach you how to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) if you are worried about someone. Using real and diverse stories of mental health struggles and recovery, this training provides you with actionable steps to help someone in need.
We encourage everyone in our community to take 30 minutes to learn:
- How to recognize signs of suicide risk
- How to have caring conversations that encourage someone to seek help
- How to build community connections that foster positive mental wellbeing
- An overview of available student mental health resources, on and off-campus
